Saint Patrick’s Day West Paw Toppl Recipe for Enrichment
Next week is Saint Patrick’s Day and you know I had to come up with something special for my two dogs, Patches and Kiko. I decided to create a Pot of Gold using the West Paw Zogoflex Toppl. Check out the recipe and give it a try for your pup! If following a video is more your jam, click the image below to watch a video.
Ingredients for 2 servings
2 West Paw Zogoflex Toppl, size small
Filling
A few spoonfuls of desired meat/filling
Plain boiled kabocha squash
Trimmings from cutting decorations out of egg
Decorations
2 eggs
1/3 cup plain old fashioned rolled oats
Small handful of raw spinach leaves (omit if your dog has kidney disease)
1 tablespoon water or chicken stock
2 natural chews (e.g. 3-4” pieces of The Honest Kitchen Beams Ocean Chews Cod Fish Skins Dehydrated Dog Treats)
Directions
1. Whisk the two eggs thoroughly and cook on low heat in a medium-sized pan.
2. Once one side is cooked, flip the egg and cook the other side.
3. After the egg finishes cooking, cut out the gold coins using a wide (e.g. boba) straw or cookie cutters. If any of the egg get stuck in the straw, just blow it out from the other end.
4. Pulverize the old fashioned rolled oats using a blender.
5. Add the spinach leaves and blend all together, occasionally scraping the pieces that get stuck to the blender.
6. Add water, stir, and start working the dough with your hands to make sure the moisture is evenly combined.
7. Divide the dough in half and flatten one of the pieces.
8. Use a cookie cutter or hand-cut a shamrock shape.
9. Use the leftover trimmings to hand-mold a top hat.
10. Repeat for the other dough piece.
11. Fill the toppl and use a piece of the kabocha squash to fill the front opening of the Toppl.
12. Stick in the chew all the way to the bottom.
13. Add the cookies and decorate with the gold coins.
You can either serve this as is, or you can pop the Toppl into the freezer overnight.
